    Bilan

    On a aimé :

    • Encombrant

    Un must-have

Test - Helmet Astro Gaming A40 TR and its MixAmp Pro + MOD Kit

The fans of eSport Halation know it all. That one is right spectator or practitioner, we all have it at least considering, if it were not already tested. The helmet Astro Gaming A40 and its famous MixAmp supposed to make wonders arrived between our hands, or rather on our ears, to pass to the test bench. Its reputation precedes it but for the sum by 250€, to see 315€ with a MOD Kit as it is here the case, it is legitimate to wonder whether the price is justified.

    Comfort

Test - Casque Astro Gaming A40 TR et son MixAmp Pro + Mod KitThe helmet and its MixAmp with its original parts

To start, we first of all will lean we on the aspect comfort and appearance of this helmet. Equipped with very large auricles and rather soft cushions Astro Gaming A40 makes strong impression as of the moment when one poses it on the head. The ears are well surrounded and not crushed, the touch is soft, the cushion located on the top of the arch is posed delicately on skull and ensures an optimal maintenance in spite of its 370 grams the weighing. Over the duration, this consequent weight can be made feel on the top of skull. On the other hand, no embarrassment is made feel on the ears.

Even apart from its gauge, A40 is imposing, not to say invading. With him, exit the installations purified in a beautiful immaculate living room. This helmet is addressed above all to the large gamers not being afraid of the cables since it is connected to the case MixAmp Pro by a cable jack of 1.5m length before sending two cables microphone-USB and optics of 3 meters to connect console in the back. If you are thus amateur of well ordered installation, A40 is not perhaps the solution to be privileged.

    The sound

Test - Casque Astro Gaming A40 TR et son MixAmp Pro + Mod KitWith its announcer tags and bearings suppressors of noises like its lengthened microphone, the MOD Kit makes the helmet still better

Although cumbersome, Astro Gaming A40 TR is irreproachable once its envoy in the ears. That one speaks about music on PC or sound of game via the console, the helmet has all the first of the class by delivering a sound balanced incredibly well, clearly and so natural that one sometimes comes from there to forget that it comes from a helmet. Concerned competitive, spatialization out of commun run of Dolby Surround 7.1 fact of the wonders. I already could test, in the past, some helmets extremely making this side but never by reaching such a level of precision. After this test, I do not put myself any more any question as for his use more than frequent at the time of competitions ESL.

On its side on the other hand, the basic removable microphone served as disappointment at the time as of first uses. Indeed, the function of suppression of the ambient noise tends to mask the weakest voices. It is thus necessary to bring the microphone well closer to the mouth and to raise the tone to be made hear without cut. It should nevertheless be recognized that the voice extremely clear and is retranscribed with high degree of accuracy when it is audible. In oneself, that does not pose a problem in competition but the report is contrasted a little more when one has a family and that the children sleep.

MixAmp Pro and the MOD Kit

Test - Casque Astro Gaming A40 TR et son MixAmp Pro + Mod KitThe software Astro Center Command makes it possible to personalize the helmet at will

If you do not know it, MixAmp Pro is a case being located between the helmet and your source of sound where you can regulate volume, choose the profile of equilizer or adjust the balance between voice and his game with the flight while turning of simple potentiometers. Simple like hello and ultra practical, MixAmp can also be put directly in network with other MixAmp to create a vocal cat without passing by the game. A reason moreover to be privileged at the time as of competitions. The profiles of equalizer, them, are regulated of A to Z on application PC and even if basic the Astro profile is extremely satisfactory, it is one cannot more reassuring to have hands laid on all the audio parameters.

Test - Casque Astro Gaming A40 TR et son MixAmp Pro + Mod KitThe MOD Kit Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is not better effect on the white model

For this test, we received the MOD Kit Call Duty Black Ops 3. Apart from esthetics general of the unit which will be appropriate, or not, according to the tastes of each one, it is especially for what they bring in terms of comfort and performance which these interchangeable parts are invaluable. First of all, the tags, these small plates personnalisables on the sides of the helmet are isolated well better than those from origins. Indeed, the tags of the MOD Kit profits from a rubber lining improving the insulation instead of a simple plastic plate. The bearings of ears and arch are, as for them, much thicker and in imitation leather to make the helmet even more comfortable. On its side, the microphone of the MOD Kit measures 20,5cm against only 18cm for the stem of origin. These 2,5cm additional is useful to approach to the maximum the microphone of the mouth when one knows the potential difficulties of this last to detect the voices lacking range. On the other hand, its profit of size is not without disadvantages since the additional weight of micro tends to prevent it from remaining in place. It is necessary thus often to especially reassemble the microphone which will be very often found on the level of the neck, if you are kind to move the head in all the directions way wind vane. For the people paying a great attention to appearance, the MOD Kit are available several colors and, within sight of the 65€ asked, it is better that you like that.

    Assessment

    One liked:

    • Rather comfortable, especially on the level as of ears
    • Excel sound
    • The personalization of the sound via the application
    • MixAmp Pro
    • The MOD Kit makes it still better

    One did not like:

    • The micro top step for the “weak” voices
    • A heavy hair
    • Encumbering

    One must-cuts

Equipped with an exceptional sound that it is in terms of clearness or spatialization, Astro Gaming A40 TR accompanied by its MixAmp Pro makes very strong impression. In spite of an apparent plumpness resulting in a weight rather high on the balance, the helmet remains rather comfortable even if it starts to be felt over the duration. On its side, the MOD Kit represents a real added-value. Apart from the visual customisation, it manages to sublimate comfort and listening thanks to thicker bearings, a better insulation and a longer microphone being able to fill a certain weakness of the microphone of origin. Then yes, the helmet is expensive, very expensive, but one speaks here about a product of top quality which represents the top of the shopping cart in the helmets of competitive use.
